Finally, our session recap videos are HERE.
Fairness First: The most important GM role is maintaining fairness by following the established rules, ensuring every player receives equal treatment and consistent rulings.
Player-Driven Creativity: I embrace creative player ideas and improvisation, often enabling new actions or directions supported by rule-governed adjudication and impromptu rolls.
Hybrid Content: I prefer a blend of published and homebrew adventures—published content for structured prep and homebrew elements for originality and creative fulfillment.
Backstory Integration: I invest in character backstories, weaving them into the story through small but meaningful moments that give individual player characters time in the spotlight.
Balanced Campaigns: I run worlds balanced between sandbox freedom and story-driven campaigns, encouraging players to telegraph plans and influence story development while maintaining preparedness.
Voices: I try to use minor voices whenever possible, but I am NOT a voice actor or trained in any way. I am an engineer and Paramedic.
Engagement by Design: I request players to complete a personality profile to better understand play preferences and actively adapts spotlight moments according to each player's type and interest. Additionally, I ask players to fill out a TTRPG preferences questionnaire.
Equity in Spotlight: Quiet and reserved players are supported through thoughtful narration and guided dice rolls, while engaged players are encouraged to take a more active narrative role.
Resolving Disputes: I address conflicts by removing parties from the main group to discuss privately, focusing on resolution, with the understanding that players may leave if social norms cannot be observed.
Ideal Player Traits: I value players who collaborate, share the spotlight, understand their characters, know core rules, and assist others respectfully.
Safety & Consent: I utilize the tool RPG Digital Consent Checklist ensuring a safe gaming environment with clearly established boundaries.
CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement): I will infrequently ask players to fill out a questionnaire to ensure I am being a consistently good GM and meeting your needs/wants.
Adaptive Pacing: Sessions move between fast-paced action and slower, contemplative moments as dictated by context; uninteresting downtime is abbreviated in favor of dramatic and engaging encounters.
Gritty & Cinematic, with Humor: The game table features a blend of gritty realism, cinematic moments, and injected humor—through funny voices, modest power progression, and immersive, multisensory descriptions.
Narrative & Tactical Balance: Tactical combat is handled strictly within the rules, but narrative is elevated by having players vividly describe actions and consequences within combat.
Failure & Death: Character failure is handled with external, story-driven explanations ("no, but..."), and PC deaths are treated as a natural part of danger, with surviving characters encouraged to narrate the aftermath in a memorable way.
Digital Immersion: I use music as a pre-game mood-setter and rely heavily on digital images and short video clips to visually set scenes and reinforce immersion.
Minis & Maps: I use painted minis and full-sized maps with fog of war at the physical table, and Foundry VTT for maps & tokens for digital play.
Thorough Prep: Large-scale prep is done upfront—either reading published campaigns or creating custom adventures ahead of time, with just-in-time deep dives before each new game area or session.
Responsive Improvisation: I enjoy improvising within prepared frameworks, rewarding player creativity by introducing new lore or mechanics in response to unexpected choices.
Campaign Focus (with One-Shots): I have a strong preference for ongoing campaigns due to the benefits of story continuity, with the occasional one-shot for conventions or variety.
Rewarding Experience: I find joy in player engagement and group enjoyment, while also appreciating direct feedback when a session is especially well-received.
AI Usage: I use AI to help me create the video content I produce for my players. I also use it as a muse when it comes to re-writing my content or giving me ideas for various aspects of the game.
Advice for New Players: I encourage newcomers to fully engage with the story, while also focusing on supporting fun and inclusion for everyone at the table.
Adventure, mirth, and mayhem await in the storied Dragonbane setting! Players will explore mysterious locales, follow clues, unravel secrets, and hopefully have a memorable time of Mirth & Mayhem.
- Explore: Discover the mysteries of each adventure.
- Investigate: Use cunning and teamwork to follow clues that reveal the nature and location of the looming threat.
- Defeat Evil: Work together to stop any BBEGs.
- Mirth & Mayhem: Sessions are filled with jokes, banter, and lighthearted moments, even amidst chaos and danger.
- Rules-Forward: While the play atmosphere is jocular, rules are strictly adhered to unless a specific house rule (like Fate Coins or Roll for Effort) is declared. Expect an organized—if occasionally riotous—table.
- Themes: Expect adventure against great evil, sometimes with dark undertones.
- Respect: No racism, sexism, or bullying based on sexual ANY orientation will be tolerated.
Expectations
- Players are expected to know the basic rules, understand their characters deeply, and keep up with session recaps.
- I do a mix of 80% planning and 20% improv. I am not an improv expert, so if you decide to go in a completely different direction than the current campaign trajectory (which is totally okay), I may have to cut a session short so I can do some prep work.
- Open lines of communication—raise concerns early to keep our table fun and safe for all.
